The Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC is an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria. The main reason for its establishment was for the coordination of all aspects of the Universal Basic Education program implementation. The Universal Basic Education program came into existence in 1999 due to the state of basic education in the country. It was to ensure reform and ensure the provision of quality basic education to all Nigerians.

The Universal Basic Education Program includes early childhood (pre-primary education), six years of primary school, and three years of junior secondary school. The Universal Basic Education Commission has 11 departments namely; Academic Services, Administration and Supplies, Finance and Accounts, Internal Audit, Physical Planning, Procurement, Planning, Statistics and Research, Quality Assurance, Social Mobilization, Special Programmes, and Teacher Development.
